Son of the Return of Legends of the Dumb

OK, so neither myself or anyone else I knew actually gave credence to the story, but the tale of the Blue Ghost certainly qualifies as a legend of the dumb. I recall that in 4th grade as a class exercise we were all required to write to letters to the Blue Ghost, in hopes that one lucky child would receive a response. I can’t remember if anyone did in fact get a letter in return or if so, what it said.

We were gullible children, apt to believe all manner of nonsense, but in this case the pitch was queered by its association with school. I liked my 4th grade teacher, but I never bought into the notion that she had some post office connection with the spirit world. Nor did anyone else I should think. It was too official to be true.

Ahh, yes, The Blue Mist!! Well, I believed and I writing and getting a letter in response in the fourth grade! Did we have the same teacher? Maybe I was just more prone to suggestion than you but that was scary sh*t!

What kind of wacked pagan shit did they do to you in Easton? Bumpkins….

  • I got a reply! It was a letter with burned edges and spooky lettering. I may still have it somewhere as I saved it…I recall coming across it sometime in the past few years.

I checked with my “source” at Stonehill to see if he knew who took receipt of these letters. He didn’t have a clue who it was. A mystery for the ages…

  • Meg – we had different teachers. You had Mrs. Hooker and I had Mrs. Barnchair (sp?).

T – now that you mention it I remember you getting a response.

  • [...] a lot less exciting than a perusal of Wikipedia might imply. The weirdness I encountered was either ginned up or part of a Dungeons & Dragons session.  Sad – we would have welcomed the excitement. [...]
