I voted this morning. Hope you did too, but I’m not going to urge you to vote, as seems popular in blog land today. Frankly, if you need to be urged or prompted to register and then vote you are too fucking lazy and dumb to exercise the franchise.
I watched an elderly lady vote this morning as well. She had a full head of white hair and glasses with plain black frames. She was a frail thing, standing perhaps a little over five feet tall, though her height was hard to tell as she was stooped with age. Her clothing made me smile. She wore a broad, floppy hat, made of white cloth with an American flag pattern. Her jacket was cut of the same material.
After she filled out her ballot, she walked slowly, almost gingerly, to the table where the poll workers sat. She gave them her address and name, deposited her ballot, and thanked the workers. As she headed towards the exit, she stopped and thanked police officer on duty as well. Those thank yous made me smile too.
