Beating Heart The Prize
Posted by The Silver Fox under Books
Submitted for your consideration: a post on the 30th anniversary of The Silmarillion. Much less popular (and read) than either The Hobbit or The Lord of the Rings, The Silmarillion contains what may be my favorite passage, or story, in all of Tolkien’s work: the tale of Beren and Luthien.

That was one fantastic article. I read The Silmarillion for the first time a couple of years ago and was in heaven from start to finish. Though I can objectively step back and see how the book could be dry and difficult for the casual fan it defies logic, to me, that any die hard Tolkien fan and/or LOTR: the films fan wouldn’t love this book. It gives such tragic and triumphant scope to the whole of Tolkien’s universe. I reviewed it and went on and on about it on my site. I couldn’t help it. I was besotted. I still am. Last November I read several passages of The Silmarillion outloud to my wife and daughter after finishing 3 straight nights of enjoying the extended editions of the films. Great, great stuff. I am also a fan of Robert E. Howard and will be checking out that site more.
