That Which I Do Not Like

Books – fiction – where the main characters either is a vampire, or deals with vampires in some fashion.

Honorable exceptions: Dracula, by Bram Stoker, and Anno Dracula by Kim Newman.

  • I’m a huge fan of Dracula…is one of my favorite books if not THE favorite, so I tend to shy away from books with vamps. I broke this rule with Colleen Gleason’s books, of course, and have really enjoyed them. They don’t compare to Dracula, but they aren’t meant to. Also the book Greywalker by Kat Richardson has some vampness to it, but isn’t a major part of the plot in comparison to other parts. Was a very good book.

  • If you like Stoker’s original, I highly recommend Anno Dracula. It’s kind of an ‘alternate fiction’ – it imagines what would have happened had Van Helsing & Co. failed to stop Dracula.
