To me, nothing bespeaks of old school cocktails more than a hotel bar, and Boston has a whole bunch of them. I’ve been to the Oak Bar, but the others on the list are new to me. Perhaps a hotel bar crawl is in order.
Not sure how Noir was left off the list though. The bartenders there make an an excellent – and potent – French 75. Expect a definite list to starboard if you have more than three.

If you like French 75s, might I suggest trying a Frisky Steve? It’s champagne, vodka, and ginger ale or club soda served in a flute.
i love noir. my favorite cocktail there is the chartreuse basil. the first one goes down easy…as do the next three or four.
I want to be there when you order a Frisky Steve. Just so I can laugh and laugh…
Under no circumstances am I ordering a drink called Frisky Steve.
I have been to the Oak Bar with coworkers on several occasions. Their drinks are pretty overpriced in most cases, but I have to say, their bar mix is amazing. Roasted nuts, wasabi peas, sesame sticks … yum.
Drinks at the Oak Bar may be pricey but you’re generally getting two (at least if you order a martini) cuase they bring you the shaker.
